Are you looking to introduce your toddler to classical music in Singapore? Here is my review of what I consider Singapore's best musical playgroup situated very conveniently in Katong.

I took bubby to her first musical concert when she was just 10 months old - a Musical Playdate by At Libitum (or @Libitum) on Singapore’s East Coast. Her eyes lit up at the beautiful classical music as she balanced herself on a small stool, swaying to the rhythm. She was simply enthralled watching the professional musicians ply their trade. I was very moved by both my daughter’s reaction and by the music and atmosphere itself. We were hooked! Since that special day, we have been attending the Musical Playdate almost every month so when bubby was invited to attend a musical playgroup for toddlers, I leapt at the chance!

@Libitum’s Baby Mozart is for toddlers between 2-5 years old. It introduces the little ones to music through storytelling, rhythm and dance, musicianship, solfege, violin and piano. Despite there being a plethora of musical playgroups in Singapore, @Libitum’s stands out, not only for its unique curriculum but because the teachers are all professional Russian musicians. What a wonderful introduction to the world of music for a young child! It also introduces the little ones to the violin where each child is encouraged to play and “perform”. This is no ordinary playgroup!

My daughter loves her playgroup so much, she never wants to leave! We usually end up staying an hour or more after it finishes as she loves the homely atmosphere. It has become a home away from home for her - and me!

I would highly recommend @Libitum to families who appreciate real music and want to immerse their little ones in the beauty and splendour that only classical music can offer. If you are planning for your child to eventually learn a musical instrument, then @Libitum’s Baby Mozart would also be a marvellous introduction. It is never too early to instil a love of music and Baby Mozart is one surefire way to do just that.

Why you should choose @Libitum’s Baby Mozart Playgroup:

• It’s unlike other music based playgroups. It has an effective, thematic approach that develops young children’s music appreciation, listening skills, rhythm and dance and musicianship.
• It introduces children to violin. My daughter “practices” her violin daily now. She loves it!

• It’s Russian! The home of Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff and Stravinsky. The next best thing to learning in Russia itself!
